چکیده
This paper develops a model of cross-country growth and distribution dynamics where sharing ideas is important. The model shows clusters of economies emerging from deliberate choices made in equilibrium. It characterizes how, over time, the cross-section distribution of countries stratifies into distinct income classes.

Testing the Convergence Clubs Hypothesis among MENA Countries
T his paper is to study the convergence of per capita income. Convergence clubs hypothesis is one of the forms of convergence hypotheses, implying that countries with the same initial level of economic development, technology, and government policies, tend to be similar in per capita income and thus have a tendency to cluster around a small number of poles. In order to test the hypot...
متن کاملA Bayesian space-time approach to identifying and interpreting regional convergence clubs in Europe
This study suggests a two-step approach to identifying and interpreting regional convergence clubs in Europe. The first step calculates Bayesian probabilities for various assignments of regions to two clubs using a general stochastic space-time dynamic panel relationship between growth rates and initial levels of income as well as endowments of physical, knowledge and human capital. This approa...
متن کاملEconomic Reform, Growth and Convergence in China
In this paper, we propose a new concept of convergence which is based on the metric entropy measure recently proposed by Granger et al. (2004) to investigate economic convergence in China. This entropy measure compares whole distributions of growth rates across individual provinces. Separately, based on this same entropy measure, we also implement cluster analysis to identify any convergence cl...
متن کاملTwin Peaks: Growth and Convergence in Models of Distribution Dynamics by
Convergence concerns poor economies catching up with rich ones. At issue is what happens to the cross sectional distribution of economies, not whether a single economy tends towards its own steady state. It is the latter, however, that has preoccupied the traditional approach to convergence analysis. This paper describes an alternative body of research that overcomes this shortcoming in the tra...
متن کاملClub Convergence in Carbon Dioxide Emissions
We examine convergence in carbon dioxide emissions among 128 countries for the period 1960-2003 by means of a new methodology introduced by Phillips and Sul (Econometrica, 2007). Contrary to previous studies, our approach allows us to examine for evidence of club convergence, i.e. identify groups of countries that converge to different equilibria. Our results suggest convergence in per capita C...
